What's the point?
by punkofnice ini mean, i don't want to be miserable or anything, but what's the bloody point of it all?.
since i left the watchtower cult, i have come to realise that god cannot possibly exist...and if a god exists...god is indifferent to humankind as the least.. in 100 years time i'll be gone.
kaput.

What I have learned is to live life to the fullest and live each day as it could be your last day. Learn to come to terms with your mortality, as if you don't you will never be able to fully enjoy this life as you have it as a gift.

Why Do Intelligent People Believe in God?
by cantleave inone of the most common thing thrown at atheists is - lots of intelligent people believe in god.
this darkmatter 2525's video is an excellent explanation as to why very logical people possess religious belief systems.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y201qzddzbg.

My conclusion is I do not believe in god because when it comes right down to it, believing in a god is all about "blind" faith. When theologist can't explain something they throw up the faith thing. -

Narcissistic personality disorder and the dubs
by purrpurr ini've recently started to research npd.
having identified several of my family members as having it ( no wonder we're such a ¿***#@**!!!!
up family)there's huge similarities between the borg and individual members of the cong as well i've noticed.the over whelming love of self, the need to believe in a grandiose fictional version of themselves, always striving for more power and wealth, being unable to stand any criticism, and then there's the manipulation of the victims too.i could be wrong i guess but what thoughts do you guys have about it?

Once you know the signs, they are easier to spot. If you can't avoid contact, it's helpful to know 'who' and 'what' you're dealing with . : )
I have learned a long time ago how to spot the signs and I do avoid those types. This acquaintance I speak of was someone that I got stuck with after my mom passed away and I felt a little obligation because of owing it to my mom. I recognized that she was a passive-aggressive, narcissistic type of person a long time ago. I know it would not end well as Like I mentioned you could not say NO to her. So the last straw was about a month ago she asked me to come over and do her a favor. That afternoon she phoned me and asked if I was coming over. I nicely explained that I could come over for about an hour but i had a previous commitment that I was going out to do something with another friend. She just said well fine forget it and hung up on me. (The passive-aggressive coming out.) This was the finale straw as this isn't the first time she has done this crap. Then the next day she leaves me a big long telephone message about how I let her down etc. No apology or anything. So like I said this was the finale straw and I cut out all communications with her. So now she knows that she is not going to get her own way and as a last desperation she starts getting real nasty. That is when she starts pulling up things I supposedly did twenty years ago, that she knows nothing about and starts threatening me. Just an ugly bitch and I am glad she is out of my life once and for all.

It's one of the things I resent (for lack of a better word) the most - that they made the child that was me, see my classmates as 'ruled by Satan'. They steal your childhood, in more ways than one. xx
I grew up in the 60's and was brain washed into thinking the "worldly" children were not as good as I was as they were wicked people and would be destroyed at Armageddon. I do not blame my parents as they were brain washed into the cult but I put all the blame where it should be on the cult leadership.
I never had a normal childhood as we were never allowed to have any extra activities out side of the organization. We could not celebrate the holidays or play sports, as that would take us away from the studies. It is hard enough for children to grow up let alone make them feel even more different. The might as well stuck a kick me sign on our backs. Anyway I got through it and have never being happier that I am no longer part of that mind controlling cult.

Talesin, Those are good points and pretty much covers that acquaintance to a tee. She had a sense of self importance that she expected me to drop everything just to do her a favor. She has a sense of entitlement that you couldn't say NO to her. She lacked empathy for others, as not one has gone through what I have gone through. "Shows arrogant, haughty [rude and abusive] behaviors or attitudes." I notice she did not just act that way to me but to everyone she came in contact with. I hated to go for coffee with her as she treated the servers badly and could be very rude to them over hardly anything. -

Actually having a personality disorder is rare, and very difficult to diagnose. Showing narcissist traits, however, is easier to look for. Not all dubs are narcissists for sure, but the doctrine and way people outside the organization are labeled and judged is to strip away their humanity, so even emotionally healthy dubs see people with a toxic lens that they've adopted.
I agree that not all Dubs are narcissist but the cult attracts those types and cultivates it in them. You are correct I remember the days that I was a dub and I have to say know I am not proud at the way I thought about "worldly" people being less human than the rest of us dubs were.

I have just gone through this with a dub acquaintance and I posted about it a week ago. Just because I said NO to her she went right off the deep end, sending me an email accusing me of things that happened twenty years ago that she knows nothing about and threatening me etc. Really some Christian. Well I just had it with her head games and that is why I decided to cut her out of my life. I have enough friends in my life, I do not need this toxic person. Take about narcissist, she said and I quote, "No one has been through what I am going through". -

Does the WT attract needy dysfunctional type of people?
by William Penwell inin your personal experience, do you think that the wt attracts needy types of people?
over the years, my experience is that they do attract very needy, insecure, dysfunctional, types.
i had an acquaintance that i just basically cut off.

The WT does attract needy and dysfunctional people now, In the last 10 years I would say. We have a lot of people that have weird ailments, chemical sensitive, ground minerals sensitivity. Theirs this one sister that said the minerals under her house was making her sick. There are some sisters 3 that I can think of just in our hall that can't sit in the main auditorium because of peoples fragrances (perfumes).
I have no problem with people being over sensitive to perfumes as some perfumes can be over powering. The only thing is these same people are probably the same ones that are on a health craze where they eat raw garlic and reek of it. I recall my mom telling me about one sister that was so strong with the smell of garlic, no one wanted her in their car group. My mom said it was so strong you couldn't even breath in the car with all the windows closed.

What do you think is the source of your consciousness? Can it be copied or transferred?
by EndofMysteries inthis seems to be a question that even scientifically is still in the air.
right now your consciousness, is it the physical part of the brain?
the electrical signals in the brain?

We are who we are because of our life's experiences. If we could go back and change something in our past then we would not be the person we are today. What makes us self aware? Maybe we all belong to some sort of a collective consciousness and we return to that at the time of our death.
